I've been an NRA Basic Pistol Instructor since 2009, and while I appreciate the NRA courses, I ended up creating my own classes based on the individual needs of the shooter, or the group I was instructing.
I started teaching new shooters through my friends. Some of my friends were very accomplished shooters, many had years of close-combat arms training. The problem was the husband/wife dynamic that comes into play with teaching your spouse something new.
I have taught close to a hundred new shooter, some who had never held a firearm before.
Starting with my one-on-one classes, I could take my time and let the new shooter engauge with my hard-plastic training pistols. We would start on the grip and stance, and if it took 20 minutes before they could put their hands on a real firearm, that is what it took.
I have also taught new shooters everything from shotgun for home defense and long range shooting introduction classes.
